ILM AL-HÂL

107 AL-AWQÂT AL-MAKRÛHAH (DISLIKED TIMES OF SALÂH) There are three periods of time, in which Salâh is legally not peformed: 1. Immediately after sunrise (40-50 minutes following sunrise in Turkey) , 2. At midday when the sun reaches its zenith which is the time preceding Salâh Al-Zuhr (about 20 minutes in Turkey) 3. Before sunset, within the 45 minutes preceding Salâh Al-Maghrib, during which only the Fardh (obligatory) rakahs of Salâh Al-Asr can be offered. During these three periods, the following types of Salâh cannot be performed: Those previous missed Salâh (prayers) that have not been performed at their due times (Qadhâ Salâh), Wâjib Salâh (required prayers), and the Janâzah (funeral) Salâh of the mayyit (dead person) that has been prepared for burial before the Makrûh (disliked) times. Furthermore, one is not allowed to perform Sajdah Al- Tilâwah (the prostration on reciting or hearing the verses of the Holy Qur’ân which require a prostration) within Karâhah (disliked) time. If a Sajdah Al-Tilawâh is performed within a disliked time, one must repeat it later. In addition, it is not permitted to perform any Nâfilah (superoragotary) Salâh within these times. However, if one performs them, it does not have to be repeated.
