An amount of any solid impurity more than, nearly, 3.2 grams and an amount of any liquid impurity which is as large as or larger than the palm of one’s hand prevents one from performing Salâh (prayer). 2. Najâsah Al-Khafîfah (Light impurities): The urine of horses, the wastes of animals, either domestic or wild, whose meat is consumable according to Sharî’ah, and the dung of the birds whose flesh is not consumable is regarded as light impurity. Light impurities that cover more than a quarter of a part of the body or a piece of cloth prevent one from performing Salâh. ISTINJÂ, ISTINQÂ, ISTIBRÂ Istinjâ is the cleansing of the private parts after passing urine or stool. Istinqâ is an extended way of Istinjâ. It is first to wipe the impurity with a suitable material and then to wash the private parts and to dry them. Istibrâ is the act of a male Muslim making certain that the leakage of urine from his genital organ has entirely ceased after urinating. This can be done by massaging the male organ, coughing, walking for a few steps or bending to one side.
