ILM AL-HÂL

70 HOW TO PERFORM WUDHÛ The Niyyah (intention) for Wudhû is done in the heart. 1. When beginning Wudhû, face the Qiblah, if possible. You should sit on an elevated place and recite Isti’âdhah and Basmalah (Aûdhu…). 2. Wash both your hands up to the wrists and pass the wet fingers of both hands against each other (make khilâl). In addition, rotate your ring back and forth so that water reaches underneath, (ILLUSTRATION: 1). 3. If you have a miswak, brush your teeth with it, otherwise use your thumb and shahâdah (index) finger to rub them. (ILLUSTRATION: 2). 4. Recite Basmalah and take water into your mouth three times (ILLUSTRATION: 3). 5. Recite Basmalah and take water into your nostrils (ILLUSTRATION: 4). If you are not in the state of fasting, then sniff in water up to the soft part of the nose and then blow it out with the left hand. This is done three times. 6. Recite Basmalah and wash the face with both hands from forehead to the bottom of the chin to the sides up to the earlobes. Wet the parts under the eyebrows down to the skin. This is done three times. In each wash, the face is well rubbed. (ILLUSTRATION: 5). 7. The right arm is washed by rubbing up to and including the elbow three times, (ILLUSTRATION: 6) and repeated for the left arm (ILLUSTRATION: 7).
