ILM AL-HÂL

56 AL-MADHÂHIB (SCHOOLS of ISLÂM) Madhhab is the combined collection of issues and rules that one of the Mujtahids (great jurists of Dîn) derived from the sources of Sharî’ah (Al-Adillat Sharî’ah). When Nabî Muhammad صلــى الل عليــه وســلم was among his companions, Muslims would find solutions to their problems by asking the prophet صلـى الل عليـه وسـلم questions touching on various issues. After his demise, they would ask them from the prominent Ashâb Al-Kirâm (the honourable companions). The eminent imams of the madhâhib (the schools of Islâm) had learned about religious matters from the honourable companions (Ashab al-Kirâm) and the Tâbi’în (generation following them) thus collected and compiled them in their books. With regard to such issues that were not explicitly mentioned in the Âyât of the Qur’ân, Ahâdith or the Ijmâ’, they issued their personal views (Ijtihâds). Thus, Al Madhâhib (the schools of Islâm) came into existence. The true Madhhab of I’tiqâd (belief) and ‘Amal (deed) is “Ahl Al-Sunnah wa’l-Jamâ’ah”, which is based on the l’tiqâd (belief) and ‘Amal (deed) of Nabî Muhammad صلى الل عليه وسلم and his Ashâb Al-Kirâm (Honourable Companions). There are two imâms (leaders) in Madhhab of i’tiqâd (belief): 1. Imâm Abû Mansûr Al-Mâturîdî, رحمة الل عليه 2. Imâm Abûl Hasan Al-Ash’arî, رحمة الل عليه
