228 CONDITIONS THAT MAKE TAWBAH (REPENTANCE) ACCEPTABLE Onemust know the harmof the sin they have committed, for it keeps one away from happiness in this world and the Hereafter. One must wholeheartedly feel grief and repentance about the sins they have committed. One must be determined not to commit any sin again. They need to do a good deed immediately after they have committed a sin, then perform Salat and ask for Allâh’s forgiveness. The greatest means of this is the Tasbîh Salâh. Apart from this, one should ask the pardon of others whose rights they have unjustly violated. If one’s heart is heedless and is willing to recommit sins, then repenting by the tongue only is useless. THE GREAT SUPPLICATION FOR FORGIVENESSِ َسُبْحَانَ اللِّ وَبِحَمْدِه۪ سُبْحَانَ اللِّ الْعَظ۪يم اَسْتَغْفِرُ اللّ َ الْعَظ۪يمَ وَاَتُوبُ اِلَيْك “Subhânallâhi wa bi-hamdihî Subhânallâhi'l-‘a th îm astaghfirullâha'l-‘athîm wa atûbu ilayk.” Especially those who have committed major sins should frequently recite the following Dua (supplication):
