172 Salâh, with the expression of the Niyyah (intention) as follows: “I have intended to perform the final Sunnah of today’s Zuhr Salâh”. (See “How to perform Salâh”) 3. SALÂH AL-ASR One who wants to perform Asr Salâh, first begins with the Sunnah parts (4 rakahs) by making the Niyyah (intention): "I have intended to perform the Sunnah part of today’s Asr Salâh (afternoon prayer).” The first two rakahs are performed like the Sunnah part of the Fajr Salâh. The musallî reads the Salawât of “Allâhumma salli...” and “Allâhumma bârik...” after the dua of Tashahhud in the first sitting (Qa’dah Al-Ûlâ). Next, they stand up for the third rakah with the saying of “Allâhu Akbar”. Thereafter, they read the dua of Subhânaka (Thanâ) and say Isti’âdhah and Basmalah (Aûdhu…) before Sûrah Al-Fâtihah. Then they perform two more rakahs. The musallî performs the Fardh part of the Asr Salâh exactly as in the Fardh part of the Zuhr Salâh, with only the difference in the expression of Niyyah (intention). Here they intend for the performance of the Fardh (obligatory) part of the Asr Salâh. The male musallîs should not neglect to call the Iqâmah before the performance of the Fardh part of the Asr Salâh. 4.
