113 QIRÂ’AH (RECITATION OF THE QUR’ÂN) The third pillar of Salâh is Qirâ’ah. It is the requirement on the musallî (the performer of the Salâh) to recite a number of Âyât (verses) of the Qur’ân to an extent that they are able to hear it themselves. Qirâ’ah is Fardh (obligatory) in each rakah of Salâh Al- Witr, Nâfilah (optional) Salâh (prayers) and the two-rakah of the Fardh (obligatory) Salâh (prayers), which consist of two rakahs and the first two rakahs of Fardh Salâh (prayers), which consist of four rakahs. The obligatory length of recitation is either three short Âyât (verses) or one long Âyah (verse) as long as three short Âyât (verses).
