ILM AL-HÂL

112 ARKÂN (PILLARS) of SALÂH The Arkân (pillars) of Salâh are six: 1. Takbîr Al-lftitâh 2. Qiyâm, 3. Qirâ’ah, 4. Rukû’, 5. Sajdah, 6. Qa’dah Al-Âkhirah. TAKBÎR AL-IFTITÂH (TO BEGIN SALÂH BY SAYING ALLÂHU AKBAR) The first pillar of Salâh is Takbîr Al-Iftitâh, which is to begin Salâh by saying Allâhu Akbar. It is not permissible (Jâ’iz) to lengthen the first syllable as in “Aaallâhu” in the recitation of Takbîr. Anyone who makes this mistake has indeed not have begun the Salâh. If such mistake takes place within the Salâh, their Salâh is nullified. QIYÂM (STANDING) The second pillar of Salâh is Qiyâm (standing). Qiyâm (standing) is necessary in Fardh (obligatory) and Wâjib (required) Salâh (prayers). A Muslim who is able to stand is not allowed to perform these Salâh (prayers) in a sitting position.
