86 GHUSL (MAJOR RITUAL ABLUTION) Ghusl (ritual bath) is washing the whole body including the inside of the mouth and the nose. Ghusl becomes obligatory due to the state of Janâbah (major impurity) caused by a wet dream, intimacy, and also either by Haydh (menstruation) or Nifâs (postnatal bleeding). FARDH (OBLIGATORY) ACTS of GHUSL The Fardh (obligatory) acts of the ghusl are three: 1. Washing the inside of the mouth, 2. Washing the inside of the nose, 3. Washing the entire body. THE SUNNAH ACTS of GHUSL 1. To make the Niyyah (intention), 2. To read Basmalah, 3. First to wash the private parts, 4. To pour water three times over the head first, then over the right shoulder, next the left shoulder and then the whole body, while doing this, the body is rubbed well each time. HOW TO PERFORM GHUSL Ghusl, in accordance with Sunnah, is performed as follows: 1. First, make the Niyyah (intention). Then, wash the front and rear of the private parts, even though they may be clean.
