ILM AL-HÂL
232 JIHÂD (HOLY STRUGGLE) Jihâd is to exert all effort to spread the religion of Allâh ( تعالى ). Muslims are responsible to make Jihâd besides their daily Ibâdah (worship), which they are obliged to perform. The main duty of every Muslim should be to struggle against every types of Bid’ah (innovations) in religion and falsehood and to strive with one’s wealth, life and energy to eliminate all kinds of evil, which destruct Îmân and Akhlâq (morality). Jihâd is made (in order) to propagate Islâm. It is done to spread the light of the Declaration of the Kalimah Tawhîd (Unity of Allâh), to protect the Mu’mins (believers) from disbelief, and to convey this light to unbelievers who have not been honoured with receiving it. Because there will always be a struggle between good and evil in various forms and aspects, Jihâd will naturally continue to exist until the Day of Judgement. This is the outward form of Jihâd. There is also another form of Jihâd which is done against one’s own nafs within his own body, the inwardly Jihâd. This is the greatest way of Jihâd. Some of the Ahadith Sharîfah of our Prophet ﷺ that expound the significance of Jihâd: "If one passes away without having engaged in Jihâd in Allâh’s way or without desiring it in the least, he dies in a kind of hypocrisy.” We take refuge from being in such a situation.
