198 SAFAR (JOURNEYING) Safar (journey) is travelling on land walking or on a camel back for a distance of eighteen hours, which is ninety kilometers or sixty miles on the sea. Anyone who covers this distance is regarded by Sharî’ah as a Musâfir (traveller). When a person intends for travelling, they are subject to the rules of Safar (journeying) no matter what means of transportation they use and how quick they arrive at their destination. A Musâfir (traveller) is subject to the rules of journeying as soon as they leave the boundaries of outskirts of a village/town/city. A traveller is allowed not to fast in the month of Ramadhân. Such a person later fasts to make them up as many days as they have missed. Nonetheless, a traveller is advised to fast if this will not have a bad effect on their health. A Musâfir (traveller) performs a four-rakah Salâh in two rakahs. However, they perform the Fardh (obligatory) part of the Salâh Al-Maghrib, Salâh Al-Witr in full. If their time is convenient during travelling or accommodation, they pray the Sunnah parts in full. They do not perform the Sunnah parts in case of a reason like fear and difficulties of journey. If a traveller performs a four-rakahs of Fardh (obligatory) Salâh in full, shall have erred. For this act, they need to ask for forgiveness from Allâh تعالــى .
