ILM AL-HÂL

176 omission, delay in doing, repeating or overdoing an act carelessly done in Salâh. CASES THAT NECESSITATE SAJDAH AL-SAHW (PROSTRATION of FORGETFULNESS) Sajdah Al-Sahw is necessary when there is an omission or delay of a Wâjib (required) act or simply delaying a Fardh (obligatory) act. However, Sajdah Al-Sahw cannot correct the omission of a Fardh (obligatory) act. In this case, Salâh must be repeated. As for the omission of a Sunnah act, there is no requirement to perform Sajdah Al-Sahw. If one recites silently in Salâh instead of aloud, or if one omits the Qunût Du’a, or forgets the first Tashahhud (Qa’dah Al-Ula) in a four-rakah Salâh, Sajdah Al-Sahw need to be performed. Thus, the error will have been corrected. HOW TO PERFORM SAJDAH AL-SAHW (PROSTRATION of FORGETFULNESS) Whenever Sajdah Al-Sahw is necessary, after reciting “Attahiyyâtu” the musallî makes the Salâm (salutation), first to the right and then to the left. Next, they perform two successive Sajdahs, each beginning with the saying of “Allâhu Akbar”. After the second Sajdah, they sit and recite the “Attahiyyâtu”, “Allâhumma salli”, Allâhumma bârik” and “Rabbana Âtinâ” duas. Then, they give the Salâm
