170 FIVE DAILY SALÂH 1. SALÂH AL-FAJR Salâh Al-Fajr (The Dawn Prayer) is composed of four rakahs, the first two are the Sunnah rakahs and the last two the Fardh (obligatory) rakahs. Firstly, the Sunnah rakahs are performed, then the Fardh. One, who wants to perform the Fajr Salâh first makes Wudhû (Ablution), faces the Qiblah in the standing position, makes the Niyyah (intention) in the heart for the Sunnah part of the Fajr Salâh, and begins the Salâh with the Takbîr (Allâhu Akbar). Then, the musallî performs the two rakahs of Sunnah as has been illustrated in the chapter "How to Perform Salâh”. Upon the completion of the Sunnah of Fajr Salâh, the musallî (performer of Salâh) stands up, calls the Iqâmah, makes the Niyyah (intention) by heart for the Fardh (obligatory) part of the Fajr Salâh, and begins Salâh with the Takbîr (Allâhu Akbar) (Female musalliyas do not call the Iqâmah for any Salâh). Reciting a long Sûrah (chapter) for Fajr Salâh is a Sunnah act for those who are able. After the completion of the two rakahs, the Tasbîhât are read and dua is made as explained above. 2.
