13 Some of the Guidelines to Read Sûrahs and Duas Correctly in Their Transliterations: â : pronounced with an empty mouth and elongation such as “Bismillâhi” â : pronounced with a full mouth and elongation such as “Ta‘ â mi, yusr â ” û : pronounced with an empty mouth and elongation such as “Innahû, lahû” û : pronounced with a full mouth and elongation such as “R û hu” î : pronounced with an empty mouth and elongation such as “Hamîdun, ‘ilmihî” î : pronounced with a full mouth and elongation such as “Rah î mu, mustaq î mu” Signs of prolongation: â-û-î (indicates one vowel count) ’ : ( ء ) Hamza. Example “Lâ ta’khudhuhû, bi-shay’in”. ‘ : ( ع ) ‘Ayn. Example “Iyyâka na‘budu wa iyyâka nasta‘în”. Gh : ( غ ) Ghayn. Example “Ghayri, faraghta”. Dh : ( ض ) Dhâd. Example “An-qa dh a, ta dh lîl, fa dh îlata”. Kh : ( خ ) Khi. Emerges from the throat. Example “Khalfahum, khawf”. Th : ( ث ) Tha. Interdental sound. Example “Kawthar, thanâ’uk”. Dh : ( ذ ) Dhâl. Interdental sound. Example “Alladhî”. Th : ( ظ ) Thi. Interdental sound. Example “A th îm, th ahrak”. CAUTION: Readers must handle this book with utmost respect and not place it at low places or throw it down since it includes some sacred texts such as Âyât (verses) of the Holy Qur’ân, Ahâdîth Al-Sharîf and Duas (supplcations).
